why does teething + a little cold = a baby up all the time at night? well- i get the up at night, but why must she insist on not gong back down without a crying jag? she has never been like this. 2 nights in a row now she has gotten up a few times a night or started crying when i went to put her back in her crib... or both! both nights have meant 3.5 hours of sleep for me at a clip & then oversleeping my alarm by about an hour! thank goodness the office is pretty much empty today because i am going to look a right slob. i literally don't have time/energy to shower.
it of course doesn't help that the hub decided that he didn't want his little girl to cry last night- even though i had just left her room & knew she's crying because of being sick/teething & just needed to get through it. so he gets her. cuddles her. she's nice & quiet. he puts her down...wahhhhhh!!!!! he comes back to bed- says 'i think she's still hungry'. making me get back up & get her. i pulled her into bed because i literally could not stand up after a total of 6 hours sleep for 2 days. she played with the boob & then proceeded to play with my hair, touch my face & generally fuck around for an hour. a fucking hour at 3 am people. this is not my kid! i have the good sleeper! the one that even if she gets up 3 times a night she goes back. to. sleep. i am the fucking lucky mom!!! at least i was!
so at 4:15 i put her ass back in her crib. 20 seconds of fussing later she was out. i know my kid & i know that she just needs to cry right now (at least i hope i know her & that's what she needs- lack of sleep makes you second guess yourself a lot!) i will have to let the hub know he needs to be on board & consistent with me- and vice versa!
thoughts? assvice? i'll even take a few 'been there- done that's' & a 'it'll get better'!
at least it's friday & even if she cries all night i can sleep in a bit tomorrow!

Sleep is not linear. They have lots of regressions for silly things like teeth and colds and even harder to understand things like growth spurts when teir brain is going so damn fast it cna't shit down.
She'll work through it. They are resilient like that. Hang in there.

I have been following your website for a while now... as our babies were born around the same time. Isaiah is now 9 months old, and he is going through the exact same thing. My older son did the same thing at around this age. I have noticed from your posts that your little girl has started to pull herself up to standing. A lot of times when a baby is learning a new 'skill' they will think about it/try it at night. That coupled with her cold and teething makes for a rough few nights. But it WILL get better. Just hang in there!
Until this past month, sleep has always been two steps forward and one step back at our house. Sometimes it felt like two steps forward and three steps back! Since we were like you and DH was unemployed and I was working, he'd generally take the night wake-ups or if they were really bad we'd split them. Of course Jillian is formula fed, so it makes it easier.
I have a good sleeper too and every once in a blue moon he won't go back to sleep either. I think because he's always been such a good sleeper it's harder on me because I don't know how to deal with it.
If she's been sleeping well for 9 months now she's got solid sleep skills; it hopefully won't last long, but yeah, maybe the hub can fuck around with her in her room from now on LOL!
Poor you, hopefully work doesn't kick your ass (actually I find it easier to go to work on tired days because when I'm at home all I'm thinking about is when it's going to be nap time)
She'll get back to it. Things just happen like this and it will get better. It's hard, I know. Especially when you are used to sleep. Just keep doing what you are doing and she'll get back on schedule.
